Fall 2026 – End of the tale

When we bought our apartment in Tresques, the plan was to stay as long as we could climb the eleven stairs to the church. The target was ten years , which we have exceeded by two.

So, job done.

This journey has been a major wakeup call, with both of us falling more than once. Judy tumbled three times in one day, and thankfully Doug and Ann were here to help her into bed. Not fun for anyone.

Then last Saturday night I slipped trying to turn off the heater and – kaboom – down I went banging my head, hips, knees, shoulders (that would be all of me) into immovable furniture.

Judy brought a pillow and blanket. Very nice, but didn’t really help.

My legs were useless, and after a couple of hours I crawled 20 feet to the bedroom hall. Elbows only. Barely.

Every position was very painful. Judy tried to give me a pain killer which was difficult as I was flat on my back. Try drinking water from a glass while in the supine position. That is why there are flexible straws and sippy cups, neither of which are present here.

You cannot do the supine glass trick without dribbling all over. So I lay there in a puddle, and then the peeing started. I went through a few rolls of TP and now appreciate why ladies use so much. Unfortunately I could not stand let alone get up on my knees, which were killing me.

By Tuesday I could drag myself onto the bed. Thank heavens for Depends. No shame. Whoever invented these deserves recognition from the Court of Leaky Bladders.

In retrospect I wish this experience on nobody, with a couple of exceptions.

But enough about me! How are you all doing?

We are putting the apartment on the market now and have an agency coming to look at it Monday, October 26.

There is a lot of paperwork and formal protocol but we have our friend Véro to nurse us along. For the first time in twelve years Toronto is beckoning, like a Siren..

Enjoyed sharing this stuff with you.

This is the penultimate edition; probably a retrospective to follow, once the selling process is properly underway.
